ay 5: Today's itinerary takes you to other parts of the metro area, including the largest municipal park in the state and one of the largest lakes in the south (even if it is technically an inland estuary, but we won't dwell on specifics). Head on out from wherever you're having breakfast to Esplanade Avenue, a pleasant tree-shaded boulevard lined with ornate antebellum and victorian mansions. Take your time checking out the architecture of these houses, because they are a wonderful mix of architectural styles. As you move further away from the French Quarter, the street seems to get more spacious and starts to feel sort of like an early surburban area. As you approach City Park, you will pass one of the city's oldest and most notable cemetaries, St Louis Cemetary No 3. Check out the interesting above-ground vaults; the city is famed for these. Next head to the New Orleans Museum of Art, located just inside the entrance to City Park, at the end of a tree-lined boulevard. Spend a couple of hours enjoying the permanent and periodical exhibits, among some of the finest in the country. If you like gardens, you can cut your visit to the museum and walk to the Botanical Gardens, which are located only a short walk into the park. Grab a taxi and drive out to the lakefront, where you can either pack a picnic lunch or eat at one of the fine restaurants in West End Park. Return to the city center and visit the National D-Day Museum if you like history, or stroll the antique shops of Magazine Street if you like to shop. Pick another of New Orleans' fine restaurants in the Warehouse District for dinner and grab a nightcap nearby; there are plenty of night spots in this area.
