ay 2: Head out of the French Quarter for more of a taste of the city. Take the streetcar from any of the stops on Canal Street if you're staying in the French Quarter, or from the stop nearest your lodging. Ride it until you get to the Washington Street stop, then walk into the Garden District. It will be to the south, toward the river. This is where the wealthiest and most affluent of New Orleans' residents built their mansions. Before taking your your, you may want to grab a tour book, or reserve a place in one of the many guided tours. For lunch, reserve a table at the famous Commander's Palace, or stop by one of the smaller restaurants on St Charles Avenue or Magazine Street. After lunch, if you've finished marvelling at the opulence of the Garden District, get back on the streetcar and head upriver, away from downtown, to the Uptown section and Audubon Park. Get off at Audubon Park, across the street from Tulane University, and walk through the park toward the river and the Audubon Zoological Park. After touring the zoo, stop in at one of the uptown bistros or the world-famous Camellia Grill, then a nightclub. There are many of these in New Orleans, but Tipitina's is probably the most famous. Retire back at your lodging for the night.
